Yes. Stellar Waterworks COSMIXERS can and have been successfully installed and operated in any type or size of tank. This includes rectangular or circular tanks, tanks with short or very high water levels (standpipes), and tanks with any type of roof or floor. Very massive, high-volume tanks can be mixed with multiple units.

Yes. The COSMIXER has been designed to eliminate all stagnant areas, including the bottom of the tank where nitrification can occur. The mixer can be configured to pull in horizontally at the mixer bottom to eliminate sediment disruption, or it can be configured to pull in from directly below if installed in a standpipe or suspended several feet off the tank bottom with a curved floor.

The mixer can be configured or installed for any type of tank and will eliminate stagnant or dead zones. Stellar Waterworks also offers temperature probes that can monitor temperatures at multiple water levels to ensure that your tank is thoroughly mixed.

Yes. Our equipment was specifically designed to ensure that you have the highest water quality possible in distribution. It is an excellent insurance policy to ensure your tank will never be damaged by ice, or in the case of an extreme water drawdown due to fire or some other event, that you won’t have to worry about poor water quality entering the distribution system.

Strong active mixing can help reduce residual loss in tanks. When tanks are unmixed, they become thermally and chemically stratified, which promotes the development of bacteria and biofilms in the upper portions of the tank. This biological growth can exert a high demand on residual disinfectant, and we have often measured upper water layers with zero residual.

Active mixing helps bring fresh, disinfectant-rich water entering the tank into the upper water layers, which combats bacterial growth and biofilm formation. Strong active mixing also brings cooler water to the top of the tank, slowing the rates of chemical reactions that deplete disinfectant residual.

No. COSMIXERS are powerful enough to completely mix a tank even when installed under a hatch or vent near the tank wall.

In applications where the tank has very high flow and short-circuiting is an issue, installing the mixer directly in the short-circuit path will provide maximum disruption or elimination of the short-circuiting. However, no matter where the mixer is installed, the tank will be well mixed with no stagnant areas.

No. The COSMIXER was designed to be installed suspended from its chain. The mixer can either rest on the tank floor or be suspended at any desired depth above the floor.

The system is designed using well pump technology that prevents continuous rotation during operation. While the mixer may rotate slightly—up to a quarter turn—upon startup, it immediately reverses direction to maintain stable, controlled performance.

No. COSMIXERS are easy to install and maintain—no heavy cranes, lifting equipment, or tank modifications are required. COSMIXERS can be installed through any hatch or vent that is at least 18 inches in diameter, and some configurations allow installation through a 12-inch diameter hatch or vent.

It is recommended that the COSMIXER be installed and operated so the intake has at least 24 inches of water depth to operate continuously.

Yes. COSMIXERS have SCADA connections available through RS-485 and through dry contacts via our optional HOA control boxes. These outputs allow operators to monitor the status of the mixer remotely. Remote on/off functionality is also included with the SCADA control box.

Deep mixing will begin as soon as the mixer is turned on. Depending on the length of time between tank cleanings, or how much biofilm is present on the tank sidewalls, there may be a dip in disinfectant residual for the first several weeks as those sidewalls are cleaned by the existing residual in the tank.

After several weeks, once the biofilm growth is eliminated, residual levels will begin to rise and will be maintained throughout the entire water column. There will be no more concern about drawing the tank down during a fire or high-flow event and introducing stagnant or poor-quality water into the distribution system. All of the water in the tank will maintain the highest water quality possible.

Yes—we are based in North Dakota. Our mixers have operated flawlessly in -20°F (-29°C) actual temperatures for weeks at a time. And yes, we might be a little crazy to live in a place where -20°F is a normal occurrence.

However, you can trust us when we say the mixers work great in environments as cold as space.

The mixers operate in extreme temperatures to help maintain tank water quality. In severe cold conditions, the mixers help ensure ice forms much more slowly than it normally would and will help eliminate the ice more quickly when the cold snap ends.

The COSMIXER requires no routine maintenance. It was designed to be installed, turned on, and largely forgotten. Each mixer comes with a standard 5-year warranty, and we expect the machines to operate for many years after the warranty expires.
