Our modular design allows for easy installation across a wide range of applications. The system contains no moving parts inside the tank and requires no tank entry for service or maintenance. Equipment draws water from the lowest point in the tank and can be positioned in the short-circuit path to ensure untreated, high-THM water does not exit the tank. The system operates without minimum headspace or water level requirements and can run safely even when tanks are emptied.

Water is drawn from large distances to the base of the hose, where it is aerated and elevated to the surface. THMs are removed through a combination of highly aerated flow within the hose, surface breaching that creates a fountain effect, and the ripples and waves that radiate outward across the water surface.

The equipment also functions as a powerful mixer, drawing large volumes of water from long distances. The Nova system represents a significant advancement in THM removal technology—delivering reliable performance, minimal maintenance, and exceptional THM removal with efficient energy use.

What is THM?

Trihalomethanes (THMs) are a group of disinfectant by-products (DBPs) formed when chlorine reacts with naturally occurring organic matter in water. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates the total concentration of four primary THMs—chloroform, bromoform, bromodichloromethane, and dibromochloromethane—collectively known as total trihalomethanes (TTHMs). Under the EPA’s Stage 2 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rule, TTHM levels must not exceed 80 parts per billion (ppb).

How does THM removal work?

The NOVA system removes trihalomethanes (THMs) through a combination of aeration and hydraulic circulation designed to enhance volatilization. Water is drawn from the bottom of the tank and directed through an aeration zone where fine microbubbles promote the release of dissolved THMs. The treated water is then conveyed upward through a hose and discharged above the surface, creating a controlled fountain effect that further increases THM volatilization.

A third removal mechanism occurs at the tank surface. As the NOVA system maintains complete mixing, it generates an induced flow pattern that continuously brings water into contact with surface agitation. These surface ripples enhance gas exchange, providing an additional pathway for THM removal.
