UFO Mixer Case Study: Tank Temperatures Converge After Startup

Temperature data from three probes shows stratification disappearing after a Stellar Waterworks UFO mixer was started on September 10.

Before the mixer went in, temperatures at 1, 10 and 20 feet above the tank floor swung apart every day. The top of the tank ran several degrees warmer than the bottom, with the gap between probes reaching about 9°F.

The Stellar Waterworks UFO mixer was started on September 10 at 1:00 p.m. MDT. Temperatures at all three depths came together right away. From then through the final reading on September 18, the spread stayed at or below 0.23°F.

Line chart of tank water temperature at 1, 10 and 20 feet above the floor, September 3 to 18. Before September 10 the readings diverge daily by up to about 9°F. After the UFO mixer starts on September 10 at 1:00 p.m. MDT, all three lines merge and stay within 0.23°F.
